SEEing Science in Appalachia: The Tates Creek Project

The Tates Creek Project pairs EKU Honors Program students with teams of seventh-grade science students from nearby Madison Middle School.  The college student mentors and their middle school mentees engage in ecological, geological, and zoological studies of Tates Creek - a small watershed that drains the northwestern quadrant of Richmond, KY as it makes its way to its confluence with the Kentucky River in the northwestern corner of Madison County.  Data collected by the student scientists is shared with the Madison County Commission as part of the local "Citizen's Watershed Action Plan" program.
