January Alumni Spotlight: Heather Partridge, '97
We start 2016 with our January Alumni Spotlight, Heather (Nigg) Partridge. Heather graduated as an Honors Scholar and magna cum laude in 1997, majoring in English and minoring in political science. Her Honors thesis was titled, “Loss in the Works of JD Salinger.” After leaving EKU, Heather received a JD from the University of Cincinnati in May 2000.
Currently Heather is a Certified General Court-Marital Military Judge, presiding over courts-martial in the Central Judicial Circuit of the Navy-Marine Corps Trial Judiciary. Prior to her current role, she served as a Staff Judge Advocate in California, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C and was the Academic Director, Department Head and Instructor at the Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island. Heather has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal as part of her military career.
In her spare time, Heather has been active in dog foster/dog rescue groups throughout her Navy career. She also enjoys travel, reading, all puzzles (from jigsaw to logic problems), hiking, plants, and animals.
Favorite Honors Memory: “San Francisco trip including Alcatraz, Chinatown, and the Japanese Tea Garden – reinvigorated my love of travel and desire to see the world, accompanied by good friends and great professors/mentors.”
Advice for Honors Students: “Have a plan and enjoy every step!”
