April Alumni Spotlight: Rene Heinrich, '95

April Alumni Spotlight: Rene Heinrich, '95

Our April Honors Alumni Spotlight shines on Honors Scholar Rene Heinrich.  She graduated from EKU with a bachelor’s degree in Speech, Theatre, and English in 1995.  She was the first student to direct a MainStage play, "The Shadow Box," under James Moreton, former chair of the Theatre department.  She completed this as her Honors thesis project before graduation.

After graduation, Rene went on to earn her JD from Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University in 2000.  She is currently her own employer as a trial lawyer representing a wide variety of clients, including family law and child victims of sexual abuse, as well as victims of nursing home abuse.  Rene has been married to Jack Hering for 15 years.  The two stay busy raising six children and traveling.  One of Rene’s many passions is travel and visiting her hometown of Bavaria, Germany.

On Thursday, April 14, Rene will be one of two featured Alumni Spotlight speakers during EKU’s Scholarship Week.  Join us for her presentation at 5:30 pm and reception at 6:30 pm.  For more information and to RSVP, visit http://studio.eku.edu/alumni-showcase-2016.

Favorite Honors Memory:  “Randomly joining in a pre-Mardi Gras parade with three other Honors students.  We were handed out beads and trinkets to pass out and danced our way along with our newfound Krewe.  At one point I looked over and saw Dr. Frank Williams' horrified face as he slowly lowered his video camera from his spot watching from the street.  I think he thought we'd been kidnapped!”

Advice for Honors Students: “Take advantage of every opportunity.  I was very ingrained in the theatre program which became incestuous at times, and the Honors Program gave me a completely different outlet.  Between attending Chautauquas, doing quick recall with Drs. Messerich and MacLaren, hanging out in the Case building, and traveling the U.S. giving presentations or just taking advantage of the wonderful trips planned, the Honors Program enriched my life in so many ways.”
