Advising Overview

Looking for specific information about advising for this semester?  Click here: http://honors.eku.edu/spring2017advising

As a member of EKU Honors, you have an Honors advisor who is available to assist you with all things related to your Honors coursework.  You should meet with your Honors advisor regularly to ensure that you are making progress towards graduating as an Honors Scholar.

Who is my Honors advisor?

If you still have Honors coursework to complete and you are an elementary education, middle grades education, pre-occupational science, occupational science, pre-nursing, or nursing major, Dr. Minh Nguyen is your Honors advisor.  You will complete co-advising with Minh and an advisor from your major during the same appointment.

If you still have Honors coursework to complete and you are any major except the majors listed above, Katie Patton is your Honors advisor.  You will meet with Katie and meet with your major advisor in separate appointments.  You must meet with your major advisor to receive your RAC number; Katie cannot give that to you.

If you are ready to begin your thesis, Dr. David Coleman is your Honors advisor.  Dr. Coleman will host honors thesis advising sessions toward the end of each semester for those students who plan to begin the thesis process in the next semester.  You should do everything possible to attend one of these sessions, which will be announced via the "This Week in Honors" email.

Katie Patton is listed on each Honors students' DegreeWorks audit as the Honors supplemental advisor, even if she is not your actual Honors advisor.  If you have questions about DegreeWorks or general Honors advising questions, feel free to contact Katie.

How do I make an Honors advising appointment?

Watch your EKU email for an announcement on when Honors advising will begin each semester.  The Honors office will send specific information about how to make an advising appointment with each advisor.  If you need to meet with your Honors advisor outside of the normal advising window, please contact your advisor individually or call the Honors office at (859) 622-2924.

When can I register?

Honors students receive priority registration as a "designated population" at EKU.  You can visit the Colonel's Compass website to find out when designated populations may register each semester.  This information will also be emailed to all Honors students via the "This Week in Honors" email.

What classes are being offered this semester?

The course list for each semester will be uploaded to this website when it is available, as well as posted to the Honors Blackboard page and emailed via "This Week in Honors."  Want to see what classes we have offered previously?  Check the list of past Honors courses.

How can I change my course number?

Sometimes you need to register for a course, but you need a different course number to count in your DegreeWorks.  Please submit a Course Number Change Form to resolve this problem.

How can I request an override?

Overrides are typically not granted for Honors courses because we believe very strongly in keeping our courses small.  If you have a compelling reason to request an override, please complete the Override Request form.  Please do not request overrides from specific Honors professors; all requests must be made through the Honors office.

Remember, overrides are to get into a class that is closed.  Overload requests are to take more than 18 hours per semester.  The Honors office does not grant overload requests; you must request these from your major advisor.
